I’ve been eyeing off these beers for a while now and seeing where it goes and I am totally impressed. I think what impressed me most when I first heard about it was the fact that Exit released a Saison as their very first release, that is ballsy. There is so much that can go wrong with a Saison, so many little intricacies that you need to tick in order for the style to be successful. There is a great reverence for this style at the moment in the craft beer world and to release it as your first beer is gutsy. Let’s see how this baby goes…
Pours a golden lemon/ orange with generous white fluffy head.
On the Nose:
Bold and estery with lots of grapefruit, green apple and juicy stone fruit. Getting some sweet spice, juniper and bubblegum too with lees characters.
Palate is brilliantly bold and complex. Starting quite fruit driven with juicy nectarine, watermelon, mandarin and grapefruit the palate turns refreshingly dry and crisp with malic acid notes and ginger/ clove characters. You will find lots of yeasty/ lees notes, bubblegum and banana characters with dry cereal notes in the finish.
This is a classic, bold Saison. You will find all the classic characters you have come to love in Saison: Dry, crisp mouthfeel with green apple acidity, juicy citrus and fresh stone fruit. Packed with dry cereal notes, lees and bubblegum too. Really well made and extremely well balanced, it is very clear to me these guys really know what they are doing. I’ve got their Milk Stout and Scotch Ale in stock and cannot wait to get in to them. Just awesome stuff.
