Whenever I look at this bottle and the name I can’t help but think of the quintessential 80’s hair metal classic, Leader of the Pack by Twisted Sister. With a name like that, I’ve got high hopes for this beer: a sprawling story of perms, mullets and the worst gang of bikies you will ever see. Let’s see if it will live up to its excellent name sake…
Pours a lovely orange copper with generous white head.
On The Nose:
Sweet pineapple and citrus notes with stewed stone fruits and rich pine needles.
A great malt back bone with chewy pine/ resin notes and lots of tropical fruit and burnt orange. The palate is all about the bitterness though, lingering on the palate, leaving you wanting more. Lots of grainy pine, lots of resin.
This is a ballsy, interesting IPA, unlike the works of Twisted Sister…… Although the IBU is not listed, it’s big, real big. I’d say heading into the 80’s, funnily enough when leader of the pack was a hit! It’s all an intricate tale…
Huge hop notes on the nose: floral pine, citrus and tropical fruits. Huge palate: bitter, bitter orange and tropical fruit tied together with chewy resin. Lots of lingering bitterness. Great big body and solid malt profile that balances the bitterness well. Great on a cold night with a hot curry…
